FAQs About BOTOX
BOTOX
Fine lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet can make you look tired, stressed, or older than you feel. The repetitive movements of everyday expressions—smiling, squinting, or furrowing your brow—gradually leave creases that become more pronounced over time. If you’re looking for a way to soften these lines and achieve a more relaxed, youthful appearance, BOTOX offers a simple solution without the cost and recovery of a surgical procedure.
At Naples Aesthetic Institute, we provide expert BOTOX treatments to patients in Naples and Fort Myers, helping to smooth dynamic wrinkles, refine facial contours, and enhance natural beauty with subtle, natural-looking results. 1
What is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic, or onabotulinumtoxinA, is an injectable prescription medication manufactured by Allergan that causes temporary weakness in the muscles responsible for facial expressions that can lead to wrinkles. It contains a safe purified form of botulinum toxin type A and is effective in treating facial wrinkles.2
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only FDA-approved treatment to temporarily improve moderate to severe frown lines, creases between the brows, and crow’s feet in adults. It is also used to smooth forehead lines, lift the brow, soften a gummy smile, and refine jawline contours, in addition to other cosmetic and medical uses.
You can get treated in both areas at the same time – that’s the beauty of Naples Aesthetic Institute’s BOTOX treatments.

How does BOTOX work?
Wrinkles and fine lines form over time due to repeated facial movements like frowning, squinting, and raising the brows. BOTOX works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting as strongly. This relaxation softens existing wrinkles and helps slow the formation of new lines, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Beyond wrinkle reduction, BOTOX can also refine facial contours and enhance certain features, such as subtly lifting the brows or balancing the upper lip. With precise application, treatments are customized to maintain natural expression while achieving a refreshed look

Benefits of BOTOX
BOTOX® offers a range of benefits for individuals looking to refresh their appearance without surgery:
- Smooths Wrinkles & Fine Lines: BOTOX softens the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, including forehead lines and creases, frown lines (11s), crow’s feet, and bunny lines for a more youthful, relaxed look.
- Non-Surgical Solution: As a minimally invasive injectable treatment, BOTOX provides facial rejuvenation without the need for surgery or extensive recovery time.
- Quick & Convenient: A typical BOTOX treatment takes just minutes, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule—even on a lunch break.
- No Downtime Required: There’s no need to take time off; you can return to your daily routine immediately after treatment.
- Natural-Looking Results: When administered by skilled providers, BOTOX softens wrinkles while maintaining natural facial expressions—never a frozen look.
- Versatile Treatment: In addition to cosmetic benefits, BOTOX can help with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), teeth grinding (bruxism), and even a gummy smile.

What does BOTOX treat?
BOTOX is one of the most trusted and effective treatments for smoothing dynamic wrinkles—lines that form due to repeated facial expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising the brows. By temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles, BOTOX softens these wrinkles while preserving natural expression. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, BOTOX can also be used for therapeutic purposes, such as reducing jaw tension and excessive sweating.

Preparing For BOTOX
During your consultation for BOTOX, it’s important to tell your injector if you currently take sleeping aids, allergy medication, or muscle relaxants. Patients may be required to stop taking blood thinners for a few days prior to BOTOX treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and/or bleeding.
BOTOX Procedure
BOTOX is a quick, in-office treatment designed to fit seamlessly into your schedule. Before administering the injections, your injector will cleanse the treatment area and, if needed, apply a topical numbing cream for added comfort.
Using an ultra-fine needle, precise amounts of BOTOX are injected into the targeted facial muscles responsible for fine lines and wrinkles, such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases. The injection process itself is brief, typically lasting only 10–15 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation as a slight pinch, with little to no discomfort.
There is no downtime required after treatment, and patients can typically return to their normal activities immediately. Some may experience mild redness, slight swelling, or pinpoint bruising at the injection sites, but these effects are temporary and resolve quickly

BOTOX Results
BOTOX results typically begin to appear within 3 to 5 days, with full effects visible around 10 to 14 days after treatment. The smoothing and wrinkle-reducing benefits generally last up to four months, though this varies by individual.
To maintain results, regular treatments are recommended. With consistent touch-ups, BOTOX can help keep your skin looking refreshed, smooth, and youthful while preventing deeper lines from forming over time.3

The best candidates for BOTOX Cosmetic treatments are people plagued by dynamic wrinkles. When you smile, frown, squint, or make other expressions, if the muscle contractions create crow’s feet at the outside of your eyes or the 11s between your eyebrows, then BOTOX Cosmetic injections are the perfect way to erase these wrinkles for a period of 4-6 months.
However, if you have lines from your nose stretching down to your mouth (nasolabial folds) or parentheses lines around your mouth, these are static wrinkles, and BOTOX Cosmetic will not help with those. You need dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane to fill static wrinkles.
Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have BOTOX injections as it is unknown how botulinum toxin products may affect the baby.
Dr. Gill injects BOTOX Cosmetic with a very tiny needle. Most patients equate the feeling of these injections to a pinprick. For that reason, we usually don’t use numbing cream on the injection sites. However, if you would like to have numbing cream, of course, we’re happy to provide that for you.
Yes, BOTOX has undergone numerous clinical trials and is considered safe.4 People sometimes worry about injecting botulinum toxin (basically what BOTOX is made of) into their skin. Scientists first discovered back in the 1950s that when the botulinum toxin is injected in minute amounts, it does nothing more than temporarily stop a muscle from contracting.
This is how BOTOX Cosmetic stops dynamic wrinkles from forming during muscle contractions. Since its approval in 2002, BOTOX Cosmetic has been used hundreds of millions of times around the world, with very few side effects of any sort.
The skill of the healthcare provider is important to ensure BOTOX Cosmetic is injected into the correct muscle. That’s where the providers at Naples Aesthetic Institute’s extensive understanding of facial anatomy and experience with BOTOX Cosmetic comes into play.
An inexperienced injector can inject the BOTOX into an incorrect muscle, or it may migrate, leading to temporary problems such as a droopy eyelid.

Common side effects include temporary redness at the injection sites and possibly some slight swelling. This passes quickly. Otherwise, it’s important not to rub your injection sites for the first 24 hours after your BOTOX Cosmetic session. Rubbing the sites can make the BOTOX migrate to an unwanted muscle.
While rare, more serious side effects of BOTOX include dry mouth, neck pain, allergic reactions, eye problems like double vision, drooping eyelids, dry eyes, and trouble swallowing.5 Patients suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease or ALS may have an increased risk of developing these side effects.
In addition to cosmetic uses, injections of botulinum toxin have a range of medical uses. An injection of BOTOX can treat medical conditions including excessive sweating, severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis), chronic migraine, and certain neurological conditions that cause overactive bladder, cervical dystonia, loss of bladder control or urinary incontinence, blepharospasm, muscle spasms, upper limb spasticity, and strabismus.
BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin are all botulinum neurotoxins. BOTOX is largely considered the “gold standard” of wrinkle-reducing treatments, but they all work by causing temporary paralysis of the facial muscles that cause facial wrinkling.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer—BOTOX is tailored to individual needs and goals. Some people start in their 20s to prevent fine lines from becoming deeper wrinkles, while others choose treatment in their 40s or 50s to smooth existing lines and refresh their appearance.
Yes, BOTOX for men is an option! BOTOX is a popular treatment for men who want to reduce forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet while maintaining a natural, rejuvenated look. It’s a quick, non-surgical way to achieve a more rested and confident appearance without noticeable signs of treatment.
The cost of BOTOX injections is unique for each of our patients in the Naples and Fort Myers area, and depends on the areas treated and the number of syringes needed to achieve a patient’s desired results. We’ll go over the cost of your individual BOTOX treatment plan during your consultation.
